Shopping and inspo in Sidi Ghanem
Sidi Ghanem, or the “industrial district” is a neighborhood that is about 15-20 minutes by car from downtown Marrakech, where up and coming designers and artisans often have their workshops or factories located with a storefront that is open to the public.
This area used to be pretty sparse and off the beaten path, but it has become a destination in its own right over the past few years, as more and more businesses have sprung up, with restaurants, cafes, and even art installations among the shops. You can easily spend a few hours in the district, though we recommend going with a driver, as it is a bit spread out (and you will need a place for all your packages, of course!).
There’s an air of entrepreneurial creativity here that is intoxicating. Being in the presence of all the things, while the things are being crafted right then and there is one of the experiences we love the most about Marrakech in general. In Sidi Ghanem, this experience is a bit more design-forward than you’ll find in the souk stalls, the shopping pace is more leisurely, and you can commission custom pieces with relative ease.
Here are our favorite stops:
Cote Bougie for fancy, amazing smelling candles, that often come in beautiful vessels made by local artisans
Galerie Pop for a curated selection of vintage furniture and housewares
The Teak House for all things teak furniture
Heritage Berbere for home scents
Chabi Chic for clothing, kitchenware and bedding
Marrakshi Life for hand woven textiles
MCC Gallery for interesting art installations
Lunch:
MFF for teas, sandwiches and pastries
Jajjah by Hassan Hajjaj for Hajjaj’s art space and cafe
